According to a recent study a device was found using new technology which helps prevent stroke. One important way of screening people for potential stroke involves looking, by ultrasound, at any blockages in the carotid arteries that serve the brain.
Researchers at Texas University in the US have pioneered the use of a portable device, based upon a technique called Power Doppler Imaging. Used on 20 people, this was used to take two different images in a far shorter time than the standard ultrasound exam. When compared to the standard method, the new technique was found to be equally good in detecting blockages of the carotid arteries. If its use were more widespread, it could really help people avoid the risk of stroke from problems with their carotid arteries.
