A British company has unveiled a new fingerprinting gadget that checks whether a person has been taking illicit drugs by testing the sweat present on the fingers. Developed by Intelligent Fingerprinting, a University of East Anglia affiliated company, the device is still in prototype stage but soon could be used extensively in criminal forensic work, homeland security and in workplace drug screening.
The company’s business development manager, Dr Paul Yates said that the gadget makes use of disposable cartridges and thus can be used by anyone without the need for any biohazard precautions.
“There has already been considerable worldwide interest in the use of the technology for testing within a wide range of applications, including criminal justice forensic science, homeland security, and institutional testing such as prisons and workplaces”, Dr Yates said.
