 New Infrared Thermometer for Smartphones
San Diego-based Fraden Corp has come out with a new infrared thermometer for smartphones that can be used to check the temperature of a baby or the meat in the oven without the need for touching either.
The thermometer camera is 5x5x5 mm in size and will be compatible with the next generation of smartphones. It can detect temperatures within the range of -30°C to 200°C and can be used to scan the temperature of a particular area of the skin.

Stating that the technology can prove to be a major differentiator in the smartphone war, Fraden Corp. president, Dr Jacob Fraden said, “Most smartphone models differ little from one another, with only small evolutionary changes. The vendor with breakthrough functions for real world everyday use, like reading a child’s temperature, can distance themselves from their competitors.  We believe this new patent can be a significant competitive differentiator for a smartphone manufacturer.”
