A proposed new law in Los Angeles could make it mandatory for porn actors to wear condoms during film shoots.
A proposed new law in Los Angeles could make it mandatory for porn actors to wear condoms during film shoots. The AIDS Healthcare Foundation had made a number of unsuccessful efforts to require condoms in adult films - through state legislation, lawsuits and complaints to regulators.
Now it has collected more than 64,000 valid voter signatures - about 23,000 more than the law requires - to put the issue to the ballot in Los Angeles.
The signature campaign began in August and wound up a month ahead of the December 23 deadline.
"We believe these performers deserve the health and safety protections already afforded to them under existing law, and that all levels of government need to be involved in this workplace safety issue,' the Daily Mail quoted foundation President Michael Weinstein as saying.
San Fernando Valley in Los Angeles is the heart of the multibillion-dollar US porn industry.
If passed, the measure would require porn producers to agree to have their actors use condoms in adult films shot in LA in order to obtain permits to film in the city.
