New travel rules for pets will be in place from January 2012.

This new rule comes as a big relief to pet owners, which will make life much easier for them as well as to their pocket, resulting in savings of £7mn in fees.
Dog owners must take note that their pets must be vaccinated and microchipped against rabies and a blood test is compulsory 30 days after vaccination and 90 days before they intend to travel from non-EU unlisted countries to EU countries.
Thanks to the scientific progress made in vaccines against rabies, it is now not required to force pets to spend six months in quarantine.
