A group of Northern Irish researchers have come up with a new treatment that promises to help those who are suffering from cystic fibrosis.

However the researchers said that the medicine could also be used among other cystic fibrosis patients since the basic defect in the illness can be treated using the medicine. The researchers added that those who had taken the drug displayed improved lung function and reduction in the number of flare-ups of the disease.
“It is the first to show that treating the underlying cause of Cystic Fibrosis may have profound effects on the disease, even among people who have been living with it for decades”, Queen’s University Belfast’s Stuart Elborn said.
