New Zealand Survey Claims New Zealand Accent The Best
In an interesting survey designed to raise awareness about Hearing Awareness Week, it was revealed that New Zealanders love their own accent the best.
Backed up by leading hearing solutions company Phonak, the survey questioned about 300 people in the country about the accents they liked and disliked. 30 per cent of the people surveyed said they found the Kiwi accent the most attractive. 25 per cent claimed that the British accent was good and 24 per cent found the Irish attractive.

The most displeasing accents according to the survey were the Australian, the Cockney and the South African.

Among foreign languages, French was considered very pleasing by 53 per cent, and the other European languages that were popular were Italian and Spanish. Oriental languages – Japanese, Mandarin, and Arabic had each only 1 per cent of the people surveyed vote for them.

The survey was an interestingly unique way Phonak New Zealand used to make people become aware of hearing problems and the need to take corrective action. David Crowhen, Head Audiologist for Phonak New Zealand says "Hearing loss affects a wide range of people across the social spectrum - more than 4000,000 in New Zealand. Yet, most people wait 10 years to do something about it".
