Newborn Baby Dies Three Hours After Vaccination at Kharar

Harshdeep Kaur, a newborn baby girl died at the Kharar Civil Hospital just three hours after receiving vaccination. Her parents have alleged gross negligence and misconduct by the hospital authorities. Sukhwinder Singh and Gurpreet Kaur have also asked for a probe as they feel the Multi-Purpose Health Worker (MPHW) who gave the BCG vaccine to their daughter was drunk.

Kharar SDM Rajeev Kumar Gupta has ordered the hospital authorities to take action and submit a report to him. In his complaint, Sukhwinder Singh alleged that the worker who gave the vaccine was drunk. He added that their baby turned blue and fell unconscious upon being taken back home following the vaccination.

Mohali Civil Surgeon Dr PK Shridhar told the Indian Express that the empty vaccine vial from which the baby was vaccinated had been preserved and would be analyzed.
