NGO Demands Ban of Junk Food in and Around School Premises
In an attempt to encourage healthy eating habits among school children, an NGO has filed public interest litigation (PIL) in the Delhi High Court to ban junk food and carbonated drinks in and around the school premises.
Co-founder of NGO, Uday Foundation, Rahul Verma, said, “On one hand we teach nutrition and value of healthy lifestyle to children in schools, and on the other hand we continue to make these foods available to them.”

So that only healthy food is available in school canteens, the petition demands the respondents- the Delhi government, Delhi's education department, the human resource development ministry, health ministry and the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) - to formulate a comprehensive canteen policy. Already there are few schools in Delhi that do not allow junk food and carbonated drinks inside the school.
