The South African mobile telephony provider MTN has just launched a series of "Islamic ringtones" in Nigeria, targeting the West African country's some 70 million Muslims.

"Go express your faith," urges MTN in a full-page newspaper advertisement for its "Islamic melodies".

For 200 naira (1.7 dollars/1.16 euros) the faithful can download religious chants such as "Allah's Care", Allah's Exaltation", "Prayer against Poverty", "Prayer for Guidance" or "Prayer for Humility."

With the big Christian and Muslim holidays falling at around the same time this year, MTN, is also offering a selection of Christian themes such as the carol "Silent Night", remixed with a disco beat.
