Many Australians have strangers on their Facebook friends' list where they really do not know all the people in it, reveals a new study. According to The Advertiser, the research revealed that Facebook habits have exposed us as unsocial with about a third seeing fewer than five of our online friends in the past year.he research also found just more than a third of people do not consider their Facebook friends' list a "true friends" list, the Courier Mail reported.
Abi Caust, 25, from Colonel Light Gardens, has 738 Facebook friends but knows less than half.
"There are people I went to primary school with, old school friends, there's people I have met through work and people from overseas I haven't met but added for Facebook games," she said.
Caust does not know many of her "friends", which is why she keeps her Facebook on a "very high privacy setting".
"Only my close friends can see my whole profile," she said.
Social media intelligence company SR7 co-founder Peter Fraser asserted that the numbers indicated Australians are using the technology to stay in touch with people globally in place of mail and phone conversations.
