Nutrition Labels on Raw Meat Packages
The US Department of Agriculture has announced that starting on March 1 raw meat packages will come with nutrition fact labels.
The USDA released a statement in which it said that more than 40 popular whole, ground or chopped meat and poultry will contain nutrition labels detailing the amount of calories, total fat and saturated fat grams present in the product.

The department also added that butcher stores will also have a chart detailing the nutrition facts. Stating that more and more people are interested in the nutrition contents of food items, the Under Secretary for Food Safety at the USDA, Dr Elisabeth Hagen said, “This administration has had a really strong focus since the beginning on safe foods and expanding access to nutrition food for everybody. Consumers are more interested in what's in their food than they've ever been. We want to be supportive of that.”
