NY Restaurants may Need to Post Grades

New York officials have revealed that they are mulling on a measure that will require eateries in the City to post their most recent sanitary inspection grade.

New York officials have revealed that they are mulling on a measure that will require eateries in the City to post their most recent sanitary inspection grade.

Dr. Thomas Farley, city health commissioner, said that health officials inspected over 24,000 eateries in the City and awarded grades A, B or C based on sanitation within the premises.

"Many restaurants in New York have excellent food safety practices, but too many operate at the margin," Farley said in a statement. "Customers should know how closely restaurants are following health department standards for sanitation before they sit down to eat. When they do, restaurants respond, and that's good for everyone."

He added that posting grades publicly would help consumers make informed choices and also provide motivation for the restaurants to maintain cleanliness.
