US President Barack Obama and his wife Michelle are changing the world's food culture, says food and wine expert Ted Allen.

Allen, 44, had been the food and wine expert on Bravo's "Queer Eye", and he now hosts two programs on the Food Network, "Chopped" and "Food Detectives".

"I think they're changing the food culture nationally and internationally by their wonderful step of planting an organic garden on the White House grounds," The Politico quoted him as saying.

"Unbelievably, to me, that it's the first garden there in fifty something years. If you look at the influence John Kennedy had on men's fashion, abandoning the fedora or going without an overcoat at his inauguration, I believe that that changed men's fashion to this day.

"I think what the Obama's are doing with food culture in America is vastly more important than that and it'll be just as sweeping as that.

"They are sending the message to Americans who aren't currently foodies that you want to eat seasonally, you want to eat organically.

"They're encouraging people to grow their own food and go out and try interesting restaurants on their date nights and I think it's fantastic," he added.
