Earlier, the government had stipulated that anybody with a BMI of 35 and a medical condition could get the obesity surgery done, free of cost. This has led to many obese patients, trying their best to avail the free surgery offered by the government.People suffering obesity as well as health conditions like diabetes and blood pressure are going overboard with food, just to meet with the surgery eligibility criterion. Following this, the government is planning to raise the BMI limit to 45.
