Obesity During Pregnancy Increases Asthma Risk in Offspring
Babies born to women who were obese during pregnancy have a higher risk of suffering from asthma, according to a new study conducted in Sweden.
A group of Australian and Swedish researchers polled more than 129,000 mothers and 189,000 children in Stockholm and found that the children of those women who had a body mass index of over 35 when they were pregnant were 61 percent more likely to suffer from asthma.

“We found that there was a clear increased risk of childhood asthma, medication use and hospitalization with increasing degree of obesity and overweight in mothers in early pregnancy”, lead researcher Adrian Lowe said.
