BEIJING: The popularity of Chinese products leaves little doubt about their diligence and ingenuity , yet an average Chinese, caught up in the euphoria of success, growth and development, is unfortunately not a symbol of good health.

A survey purporting to measure the status of Chinese health, set into motion by 10 organisations and covering nearly 245,035 people, has revealed the ostensible yet unhealthy fallout of fast paced lifestyles; Nearly one in three men and one in eight boys, especially in the urban areas are positively obese.

The obesity rate hovered around 9.3% for Chinese male adults with 33.2 percent, depicting the overweight rate. It was also observed that obesity shot up with age, 40 -44 age group being the most vulnerable.

It was also seen that Chinese students suffered High BP, short sight, and overall stamina and strength showed a steady decline.

This is attributed to the manner of present day living where people in cities, would much rather take the elevator, than walk up a flight of stairs
