Nadya Suleman, the US octuplet mom, could soon become homeless as her mother defaults on housing loan.

Nadya Suleman, the US octuplet mom, could soon become homeless as her mother defaults on housing loan.

People reports Ms Suleman’s mother, Angela, who owns the family home, hasn’t paid the mortgage in 10 months.

The bank filed a default notice on February 6 after Ms Suleman’s mother failed to pay the $2358 monthly repayment due since April 2008.

Ms Suleman told People: “It's tough times we are in right now."

A bank official said that filing for default was only the first step towards a foreclosure, and that most homes didn’t go to auction till up to six months after the initial notice is made.

However, the mother of 14 may have more time to help with the repayments after the bank official said the sale could still be delayed by the discretion of her lender, IndyMac Federal Bank of Pasadena.

"We take these things one case at a time – there's no shortage of people struggling to make their mortgage payments right now," an Indymac representative said.

"Roughly more than 10 percent of our customers are 60 or more days behind."

Nadya's father, Ed Doud, though, has hinted that the family has another property where Nadya can bring home her octuplets over the next few weeks, when they are released from Kaiser Permanente Bellflower Medical Center.

Meantime Harish Sehdev, associate professor of obstetrics and gynecology at Pennsylvania Hospital, has called the decision to implant eight embryos in a woman who already has six children "insensitive and ignorant".

Under guidelines issued by the American Society of Reproductive Medicine (ASRM), a woman Ms Suleman's age should have no more than two embryos implanted.

Multiple-birth babies are often born prematurely. Ms Suleman's octuplets were born nine-and-a-half weeks early, which puts them at significantly greater risk of long-term health problems, Mr Sehdev said.
