New Delhi: Environment Buffs, nearly thousands, from Schools and colleges have sent postcards to the environment Minister expressing disgust at the proposed scrapping of Clemenceau, the French Warship, which will take place at the Gujarat ship-breaking yard.

The Indian arm of Greenpeace International, the environmental activists, is spearheading the protest, expressing the toxic nature of the material in the ship. They have initiated as post-card drive in eight major cities- New Delhi, Kolkata, Chennai, Mumbai, Bangalore, Pune, Hyderabad and Chandigarh.

Pranay Makhija, a student of the 11th standard from Sriram School, said he and his team will move heaven and earth to halt the ship from entering Indian waters. "We want to do something for our fellow Indians and by participating in this postcard campaign we want to express our views in a more creative way," Makhija said, adding that the team would also undertake a protest march to the parliament if required.

Greenpeace volunteers have15,000 postcards in their kitty which will be sent to the Environment minister, A. Raja. They are nursing an ambition of submitting 50,000 post cards before Feb 20th.

The Supreme Court is abreast of this matter and the respective committee in charge of hazardous materials, is slated to take a decision on the ship’s entry into Indian Waters.
