Oral Contraceptive Linked to Death from Blood Clot

German drugmaker Bayer is in serious trouble after Swiss medical authorities revealed that they are investigating reports that a woman died after consuming a contraceptive

German drugmaker Bayer is in serious trouble after Swiss medical authorities revealed that they are investigating reports that a woman died after consuming a low dose contraceptive manufactured by Bayer.

According to reports in the Swiss media, the woman was prescribed Yaz, a low dose contraceptive pill marketed by Bayer, 10 months ago and lost her life a week back after suffering from a blood clot.

Swissmedic revealed that at least nine people have died in the last 19 years after using contraceptive pills. The Swiss medical authority added that all the contraceptive pills came under the scanner after a 16-year old girl suffered from lung embolism last year.

Yaz was launched in European markets last year after a successful run in the United States. Bayer has high expectations from the drug and expects it to generate at least 200 million euros by the end of 2014.
