The Balasore district consumer redressal forum Saturday fined the Balasore-based City Clinic and its owner Pratima Pradhan for wrongly operating on the uterus of Shila Jana on July 23, 2002, the patient's lawyer Siddheswar Bag told IANS.Jana, a 35-year-old resident of Gobara village under the Ramnagar police station in West Bengal, had been admitted in the clinic after suffering from severe pain due to infection in her uterus. The doctor operated on her and removed her uterus.
A hospital at Vellore in Tamil Nadu found that during the operation a small hole had developed in the urine bladder due to the carelessness of the surgeon.
The complainant stated that she suffered physically, mentally and financially due to the doctor's negligence.
A three-member committee of the forum headed by S.N Das ordered the doctor and the clinic to pay the compensation amount to the patient. The forum also ordered the clinic and the doctor to pay Rs.10,000 towards litigation expenses, Bag said.
