British actor Paul Scofield, who won an Oscar has died of leukemia at the age of 86.
British actor Paul Scofield, who won an Oscar for his role in the 1966 film ‘A Man for All Seasons’, has died of leukemia at the age of 86.
Scofield won an Academy award for best actor for his performance as Sir Thomas More in ‘A Man for All Seasons’.He was later nominated in the best supporting actor in 1995 for ‘Quiz Show’.
Scofield’s death was confirmed by his agent Rosalind Chatto on Mar 21.
Chatto said that the great stage and silver screen actor had died in a hospital near his Suffolk home on Mar 19.
"He had leukaemia and had not been well for some time," Contactmusic quoted her, as saying.
Scofield was born in 1922 in Sussex. His stage career began in 1940, and later he became famous for his Shakespearean roles.
