Oz Bodybuilders Warned About Injecting Drugs Used on Greyhounds

Health experts in Australia have warned that a large section of bodybuilders are injecting themselves with drugs used on greyhounds in order to beef up their muscles. With the Australian Pesticides and Veterinary Medicines Authority stating that the sale of the drug, known L-carnitine, cannot be regulated since it is not a schedule 4 substance, it is often used as a weight loss supplement among humans.

However one of Sydney’s leading greyhound racing vet, Ted Humphries said that using the drug can be dangerous for humans since it increases the risk of heart attacks and is also not proven to be effective in improving the performance. “It could cause cardiac arrest in large doses in those with an underlying heart condition. A lot of people are unaware they have one and bodybuilders are no different”, he said.
