More and more youngsters in Australia are turning to botox with many of the women being younger than 20, a new report reveals.

While the botox treatment is often undertaken by women older than 40 years in order to clear their wrinkle lines, young women in Australia are already opting for the treatment as a preventive measure.

Says 21-year old Terri-Anne Chapman who has already undergone botox treatment four times, “I'm 21 so I don't have wrinkles, I treat it as a preventative so when I do get older I don't have really bad lines. Botox is very common on the Gold Coast - a lot of my girlfriends have it done regularly.”

However one of the leading dermatologist on the Gold Coast, Michael Freeman said that using botox at such a young age could prove counter-productive. While not viewing botox as unhealthy, Freeman said that taking it at such a young age could paralyze muscles which could in turn create wrinkle lines in other areas.
