A United Nations study says that the Ozone layer that protects the earth from the dangerous cancer-causing ultraviolet rays is showing signs of thickening after years of depletion.
The Ozone hole that comes into view every year over Antarctica has also stopped growing bigger.

According to the UN report, the Ozone hole will take a decade before it starts contracting.

Scientists said that the recovery came following political determination to reduce the man-made CFC gases from the environment that deplete Ozone layer, reported the BBC.

World Meteorological Organization's Secretary-General Michel Jarraud said that global action towards protecting the Ozone layer is a major success story in the field of environment.

The UN study was published by World Meteorological Organization (WMO) and the UN Environment Programme (UNEP) researchers.
