In a report prepared by it, SPARC further said that around 10 million children work to assist their families.“About 6.463 million children do not go to school, which is the second largest number of such children in a country. The number of street children is growing with almost 25,000 on the streets in Karachi alone, and almost four children are sexually abused daily,” the Daily Times quoted the report as saying.
“The report is a situational analysis of the conditions and environment in which the children are living in Pakistan,” SPARC official Irfan Raza said.
Commenting on education, the report said that almost 50 million adults in Pakistan are illiterate, while the drop out rate in primary schools is the highest in the world.
An estimated 25 million children don’t go to school and approximately 10 million are child labourers, it added.
