The Pakistan's northwest Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province has planned to offer free check-up for people suffering from heart ailments.

The Pakistan's northwest Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province has planned to offer free check-up for people suffering from heart ailments. The government has allocated an amount of Rs. 60 million to provide free angiography and angioplasty services.
Chief Minister Ameer Haider Khan Hoti approved the plan to give free services to heart patients, the Dawn reported.

Three hospitals -- Lady Reading Hospital, Hayatabad Medical Complex and Ayub Teaching Hospital -- would offer the services. The first two will get Rs.25 million each while the third will get Rs.10 million.

Patients will be treated for free irrespective of their financial status for one year.

The government estimates that 5,000 patients will get free angiography and 1,500 will have angioplasty services.

The daily said many patients cannot afford the Rs.300,000 cost of the treatment.

The chief minister also said the government has allocated Rs.500 million for free treatment of hepatitis patients, and another Rs.100 million for free treatment of people suffering from cancer.
