At an age when most of the babies barely develop a sweet tooth, one-and-half-year old Jayanta Lahon of Assam’s Dibrugarh has developed a taste for chillies!

Seventeen-month-old Jayanta has developed a taste for Capsicum Chinese chilli, believed to be the hottest in the world with 1001304 Scoville Heat Unit.

Jayanta has been devouring the famed chilly since he was a six-month-old. The parents tell that their son can today devour as many as 23 chillies at one time without any uneasiness.

Rupjyoti Lahon, mother of Jayanta Lahon, said: "One day I had left some chillies for use in the kitchen. On return, I found he was eating those chillies. We rushed to the doctor who said the child had no problems."

Concerned over their son's unusual taste for such a hot chilli, the parents-- Rupjyoti and Ritul have contacted several doctors in the city to see if there were any problems with their son. But doctors assured them the child had no problem.

S.K Jalan, a doctor, said: "A person by the name Ritul Lahon came with his child saying that the child ate a lot of chillies. He was anxious whether there were any side-affects or whether the child would have any problems. When I examined the child I found the boy did not have any problems and was normal."
