A doctor alleged to have advised a patient seeking contraception advice to go and see an exorcist, faces a disciplinary hearing today.

Dr Joyce Pratt, from Birmingham, who works at several London family planning clinics, had allegedly told the woman she 'had something awful inside her' and was under a black magic spell.

The GP, is then said to have offered to use her special powers to help the woman and instructed her to visit a priest at Westminster Cathedral, believing the patient was possessed by an evil spirit.

The General Medical Council (GMC), that regulates all UK doctors, will conduct an investigation into these allegations where Dr Pratt, is charged with acting in a manner that was 'irresponsible, unprofessional, intimidatory to her patient and liable to bring the profession into disrepute'.

In addition the three-day GMC fitness hearing in Manchester will investigate accusations that the GP told the patient her mother was a witch, and that the patient's husband and mother were trying to kill her.

Dr Pratt could be struck off if found guilty. She has also been accused of refusing to co-operate with an investigation last year.
