Kids with peanut allergy may soon get relief, after a trial produced very promising results. About one in 50 children in the UK have a peanut allergy, which can cause potentially fatal breathing problems.
In the trial children given daily drops of peanut protein under the tongue built up a tolerance to the nuts.
"We have seen very promising results from this trial," the Daily Express quoted Dr Edwin Kim, of Duke University Hospital in North Carolina, who led the study, as saying.
The results will be presented at the British Society for Allergy and Clinical Immunology conference in Nottingham this week.
"A cure for their peanut allergy is something most peanut allergy sufferers long for," Dr Glenis Scadding, president of the British Society for Allergy and Clinical Immunology, added.
