Scientists at Brigham and Women’s are optimistic about personalized medicine enabled through genetic testing, slated to be the route map of the future. Personalized medicine would not only involve forecasting the presence of a certain disease, ascertained by presence of the specific gene, but will also enable early prevention strategies.

The personalized genetic testing envisaged, will not only predict cardiovascular diseases, but will unravel the genetic blue prints for many common diseases like breast cancer, osteoporosis and diabetes.

Scientists at Brigham and Women's in collaboration with the federal government will be conducting an extensive genetic study, analyzing the DNA of 28,000 women. This study will not only assist in preventive healthcare strategies for the participants but also offer a blue print for the progeny.
