Personalized Treatments For Obesity Planned

The study will seek to detect hormonal and metabolic response of women who are overweight with Gln27Glu polymorphism.

The Dietetics and Diet Therapy Unit of the University of Navarra's Ana Anton Solanas has been awarded a fellowship for conducting basic research by the Danone Institute. This will enable Ana Antón Solanas to collaborate in a program aimed at defining individualized treatments for various types of obesity. This will also enable her to take part in a project targeted at obese women.

The study will seek to detect hormonal and metabolic response of women who are overweight with Gln27Glu polymorphism. This genetic trait in patients resulted in a higher index of body mass when compared to other normal women. This is in spite of the women concerned taking regular exercises. The program seeks to identify the reason behind this.

Individualized treatments can be developed with the help of the research, with exercise regimens and diets being created to suit the individuals who differ genetically. A hypocaloric diet will be given to 37 subjects in the study for a period of 16 weeks, along with physical exercise.
