Positron Emission Tomography (PET) is more accurate than traditional radiological methods in predicting the patients' response to chemotherapy and radiation, says new research at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center. The findings of the study are published in the April issue of Annals of Surgery.
The researchers examined 64 patients with esophageal cancer with PET, which shows images of the metabolic function of the tissue under examination. The PET scans were conducted after treatment with a combination of chemotherapy and radiation.
