A writ petition was today moved before the Calcutta High Court claiming that the failure of West Bengal government and Kolkata Municipal Corporation to implement the court's directives in keeping the metropolis clean had led to the recurrence of dengue and malaria.
One person has died and several others are suffering from dengue with the disease resurfacing a few weeks ago in the city. The petitioner's lawyer Idris Ali claimed before a division bench comprising Justice K J Sengupta and Justice Sanjib Banerjee that in a similar petition last year, the High Court had given some directives to prevent such diseases.
Ali said that as per the court's earlier order, fogging machines were to be used for killing mosquitos, prompt blood tests to be made for people suffering from fever and areas kept clean and dry.
These directives were not followed by the KMC and the state government, Ali claimed.
The bench directed that notice be served on the state government and KMC.
