Tennis ace Mark Philippoussis is expected to make a complete and quick recovery from a knee injury after a successful one-hour operation.

Sydney: Tennis ace Mark Philippoussis is expected to make a complete and quick recovery from a knee injury after a successful one-hour operation, media reports said Friday.

Merv Cross, the Sydney surgeon who performed the procedure, told journalists that the 30-year-old Philippoussis should be good to go after rehabilitation, expected to begin in days.

"The knee looked pretty good. I can't see why Mark cannot come back to the sport and play as well as ever," Cross said.

The operation was the fourth for Philippoussis but the first on his right knee. The two-time Grand Slam finalist suffered the injury during a match this week at the Hopman Cup.

Cross said the injury was common among elite sportsmen like such as cricket fast bowlers, netballers and rugby league players. He cited a rugby player who was back in action after six days following a similar operation.

The prognosis for Philippoussis is closer to a month or more.
