Pineapple That Tastes Like a Coconut Created by Oz Researchers

Pina Colada may now come in coconut flavor after a team of Australian researchers accidentally created a new pineapple that tastes like a coconut. Researchers at government agency in Queensland revealed that they were trying to create a new type of pineapple that was more sweet but instead came out with a pineapple that tasted like a coconut. Known as the AusFestival, researchers said that the new variety of pineapple will be available commercially in two years.

“Taste tests tell us that [it] is a winner - it has this lovely coconut flavor, which you won't find in any other pineapple in Australia. It's sweet, low acid, very juicy”, lead researcher and senior horticulturalist Garth Senewski said.
