The airline has accepted that they collect knives and forks of passengers after their meal, and send it to a washing facility to be cleaned before being distributed to a new set of passengers.
According to news.com.au, one supplier who visited the airline's Q Catering centre, at Mascot, said staff had informed him plastic cutlery was washed as many as 30 times before being thrown away.
"I asked them, 'If you have half a leftover sandwich, do you put it with another half?'" the supplier said.
He said their reply was in the negative.
Qantas has defended the reuse saying that the plastic cutlery is of higher grade plastic than regular take-away cutlery, they also said that the cutlery is put through a rigorous cleaning rocesses before reaching the passengers.
