Poll Finds Only Six Percent Chinese Happy
A survey has found that regardless of efforts put in by the government to improve the sense of happiness among people, only six percent of Chinese see themselves to be happy.
This percentage was in stark contrast to Denmark, where 82 percent of its citizens claimed they are happy.

The sampling carried out by Gallup World Poll says China ranks 125th in a table of worldwide happiness.

The Gallup World Poll, which surveyed respondents in 155 nations between 2005 and 2009, measured their overall satisfaction with their lives and daily experiences.

The information portal china.com.cn carried out the happiness survey among the Chinese.

The portal polled about 1,350 web users ahead of the annual meeting of the National People's Congress, where the call for more happiness is likely to be a key theme.

The china.com.cn survey shows that nearly 40 percent of Chinese follow the belief that how wealthy a person is, determines his happiness.

The second most important aspect that came out during the survey is 'psychological pressure', as 27 percent of respondents showed their inclination towards it.

However, the positive side was that around 36 percent of the respondents said their lives had improved during the past five years.oreover, the government is presently trying to shift its focus from growth to enhancing social fairness and a 'sharing of the fruits of reform and development among all people'.
