The Victorian Burden of Disease reports that the Central Goldfields Shire is getting notorious for poor health of its men and women//. The study was conducted by the Human Services Department that chose to study the frequently occurring diseases and injuries in Victoria. The study looks into the harmful effects of tobacco, alcohol use, lack of exercise, obesity, and a poor diet. The eastern part of Melbourne is reported to be in the pink of health but it was just the opposite in Central Goldfields Shire. Health Minister Bronwyn Pike said "It measures the size of the `burden of disease' for each local government area in terms of years of healthy life lost due to early death and years of illness. Importantly, it reveals the areas where there are opportunities for improvements that could lead to Victorians leading healthier lives." The Minister spoke of marked decrease in the number of smokers, and this has led to better health. Cancer screening at the appropriate time has ensured that breast, prostate and bowel cancers have been detected early with improved chances of survival for its victims. This study is will prove as a guide to the Health department and Healthcare services to assess the loopholes and improve the quality of care.
