Neuronal apoptosis is the phosphorylation of tau protein and the accumulation of amyloid in aged people, and is associated with postoperative cognitive dysfunction.

Yanlin Bi and co-workers from the Affiliated Qianfoshan Hospital of Shandong University in China found that inflammatory cytokines and AMPK changed remarkably in the hippocampus of postoperative cognitive dysfunction rats. Therefore, the involvement of AMPK and inflammatory factors in postoperative cognitive dysfunction is considered to be an accommodation to postoperative cognitive dysfunction. The relevant study has been published in the Neural Regeneration Research.
