New research on pediatric behavior suggests that preschool children eat as much as they are served on their plate in any one time. Till date it was accepted that these children ate depending on how much they had eaten in their last meals, or how calorie rich the last meals were. New research had just negated all these factors and highlights the serving portion as that guides children in eating more or less, as the case might be.

The research conducted by Cornell University researchers emphasizes that children eat more food if they are served large portions, regardless of anything like last meal size or content, or how many meals they have eaten before. The research also brings to light that children have increased daily calorie intake not based on the calorie intake of their main meals but the number of snacks they are offered during the day and the calorie content of those snacks. More snacks they have, the more is their calorie intake for the day.
