Prime Minister met representatives of the medical students and reassured them that there would be capacity building in higher medical education
The Prime Minister- Mr.Manmohan Singh today met representatives of the medical students who have been on strike for the last few days. The students came from institutions inside Delhi and across the country.
The students laid down a charter of demands which they wanted the Prime Minister and the government to consider. They also expressed their concerns about the future of their fellow students.The Prime Minister assured them that the roadmap laid down in the decision of the UPA-Coordination Committee addressed the concerns of all categories of students. He assured them that he foresees a massive expansion in capacities of the higher education system which would see a huge growth in the educational opportunities available to all classes and categories of students. Therefore, they need not be worried about shrinking educational opportunities.
The technical expert groups being set up under the Oversight Committee will examine ways and means of expanding capacities and the government is committed to the expansion.
Further, they could give their specific suggestions to these Committees.
