The Health and Safety Executive has issued a warning to companies to ascertain risks, and dangers for people working at height and look at ways to ensure their safety.

This warning is close on the heels of the prosecution of Oldham metropolitan borough council after an employee fell from a bowls pavilion while he was giving an anti vandal coat of paint to the buildings roof. The employee’s arm was fractured due to the fall.The company had not adhered to the stipulations of the Work at Height Regulations 2005.
Commenting on the episode, HSE inspector Helen Jones said, "A proper assessment of the risks should have been carried out before the work started to identify the simple precautions needed to ensure safe means of accessing and descending and working on the roof."
She felt the accident could have been far more serious and companies should treat this as a wake up call to ensure dangers and risks at work places are ironed out.
In the past year alone, almost 45 workers had lost their life due to falls from heights and 3750 were seriously injured, according to HSE reports.
