Rapid Response Teams Formed in Madhya Pradesh to Fight Diseases

Madhya Pradesh has constituted rapid response teams to combat diseases of all types in the state.

"Rapid response teams have been formed to combat both contagious and non-contagious diseases in the state under the integrated disease surveillance project (IDSP)," Madhya Pradesh health minister Ajay Vishnoi told IANS.

He said the five-year project was started in 2004 with an objective to compile survey work and immediate control of natural calamities.

"The regular monitoring of diseases like malaria, cholera, typhoid, tuberculosis, measles, polio and other serious diseases and road accidents is being done at state and district levels," said Vishnoi.

Under the project, state and district level committees and surveillance committees were constituted and nodal officers appointed at district levels.

The training of auxiliary nurse midwives (ANM), Vishnoi said, is underway and 6,095 ANMs have been already trained. Plus, 267 lab technicians and 339 lab assistants have been trained.

The minister also said that action was initiated to appoint people on contract at district level surveillance units in 48 districts.

The new rapid response teams will monitor the project work and a satellite interactive terminal (SIT) has been formed in the main state surveillance unit and places have been selected to set up other SITs at the district level.
