Refreshing Assam Tea Now At The Nearest Post Office

The world famous Assam Tea will now be available in Post offices in India

Guwahati: The next time you can't control the urge to have your cup of the world-famous, rich and malty Assam Tea, just hop over to the nearest post office and get it over the counter.

Tea aficionados, at least those across India, who swear by the mesmerizing aroma of a blend produced in one of the most popular tea growing regions of the world, Assam, will now have access to their favorite tea in a unique business package christened "Tea mail".

Formally launched in Guwahati on Friday, the scheme is a joint venture between the Assam postal department and its Tea industry.

Under the agreement, the Tea Company involved in the project will give 35 percent of its revenue to the postal department.

"We have entered into a collaboration with Green Gold Company. They are giving us a commission of 35 percent out of which 10 percent will go to the retail outlet and given to the staff who interact with the customer and motivate them to buy Assam Tea," said SK Das, Chief Post Master General of the Assam Circle.

Korangaini, a renowned tea brand in the region, will initially be made available at select post offices in northern India, the scheme gradually spreading to post offices in the rest of the country.

"I think that this will be mutually beneficial to both the private and public sector especially the tea industry in boosting demand and volumes," said Dhurbajeet Chaliha, Director, Green Gold Assam Tea that owns the Korangini brand.

The initiative, the postal department feels, will earn much needed revenue and significantly cover deficits in finances being currently faced by it.

The retailed tea will bear the approval of the Assam Tea Board, and in future, the department hopes to spread the network throughout the world.
