The demon of reservation has once again spread its venomous heads and is engulfing the student community. It is to the medical students’ displeasure.
As there strong opposition undergraduate students of the Bangalore Medical College staged a dharna in the Victoria Hospital campus. They were protesting against the Centre's proposal for reservation of seats for OBCs in elite educational institutions. In the words of Anurag Arora, who led the boycott, "Our boycott and dharna will end today and from tomorrow it will only be a silent protest wearing black badges till the Centre's decision on the issue is known."
Still the interns and the Post-Graduate students said, "We will work as usual and wait for the Centre's decision till May 11, when the Human Resource Minister Arjun Singh has promised to respond." It was brought to light by Dr Venugopal, President Junior Doctors' Association, BMC. These medicos had continued to work wearing black badges till recently.
Adding, "We also hope to garner the support of students of engineering colleges in Bangalore through the IIT-IIM Alumni Association, which has offered its support."
