A survey conducted in US revealed shocking results about the stress levels among the Americans. Many of the people were feeling miserable and depressed . They were hopeful that the New Year would bring happiness and joy.
The survey was conducted among 1000 people belonging to various fields above 18 years of age. The levels of depression and stress were highest from 1990s. The main reasons being failure in romance, problems in health care, unemployment, low salary etc.The University of Chicago survey said that the percent of one bad or stressed event occurring in an individual’s life increased from 88% to 92% from 1991.
The percentage of people who cannot afford health insurance were 12% in 1991 but rose to 18% now. In 1991 only 7% were not able to pay their medical expenses but now it had risen to 11%. The rate of unemployment is 15% now but it was 11% in the beginning of the year 1991.
This was predominant among low salaried group, with poor education and also among unmarried mothers.
The survey also said that there were reservations what the New Year had in store for them. It was seen that the rate of stress among people in 2005 (56%) was more than in 2004. The root cause of increased stress being hurricanes, increased fuel prices etc.
The survey also said that 75% of the people pledged to take better care of their health in the dawn of the New Year.
