Alzheimer patients and the number of unpaid caregivers are rising sharply. Alzheimer
experts have stated that in US about 15 million people take care of a loved one
with Alzheimer's disease or some other form of dementia, amounting to 17
billion hours or more than 202 billion dollars in unpaid care. Compared to the
previous year there has been a 37% rise in the number of caregivers.
The report highlights the growing burden of Alzheimer's disease which
progresses with time and no medication is available to arrest this progression.
Experts have cited that the condition will only get worse in the coming years.
If there was more awareness regarding the early symptoms of the disease and
if they were diagnosed sooner, then proper planning could help ease the stress
on patients as well as the caregivers.
