Your risk of developing heart disease is increased if your sibling has heart disease
Professor Joanne Murabito and team have reported that the risk of heart disease increased in middle aged adults who have their siblings with heart disease. Though earlier reports have shown that the risk of heart disease is genetically susceptible and risk increases if parents have heart disease, but this study has shown a 45% increased risk of heart disease in adults if their siblings have heart disease. Researchers feel that risk of heart disease increases with family history of heart disease and environmental risk.
Researchers conducted a survey in 2,475 patients for their risk of heart disease and found that the study participants who had their brothers or sisters with heart disease had an increased risk of developing heart disease. Researchers feel that middle aged adults who had a familial risk of developing heart diseases should monitor regularly their blood pressure, cholesterol and sugar level and avoid fatty food, cigarette smoking and alcohol to avoid triggering of the genes involved in heart diseases.
