Poor women as well as those who did not finish high school are at high risk of heart failure, a recent insight has revealed.

Nearly 26,000 healthy, post-menopausal women took part in the study conducted by the U.S. National Institutes of Health (NIH)-funded Women's Health Initiative.

The research revealed that annually 57 out of every 10,000 women with a household income lower than $20,000 per year were admitted to hospitals with heart failure. In families which made more than $50,000 per year, only 17 out of 10,000 women suffered heart failure.Considering all other factors pertaining to race, health and habits like smoking and drinking, research has revealed that women in the lowest income bracket carried a 56 percent higher risk of heart failure than the wealthiest women.
